If you decided to click through to part 2 of my Vienna & Prague experience.... Welcome and thank you! Prepare for even more pictures and blurbs about what we did last week. Let's not waste any more time.
One of our "big" group activities was attending a 2-hour Mozart & Strauss show at the Kursalon. I'll admit that the chairs weren't the most comfortable things ever (my back was killing me by half way through the show) but the music was truly beautiful. There were about ten performers, each one of them incredibly talented. The drummer and cellist were having the time of their life... they were a show in themselves!
The next day we headed to the Hofburg Imperial Palace, and oh. my. god. I think this might have been my favorite palace from the visit. I'm a total nerd for imperial history, so this was right up my alley. In the Imperial Palace, we visited the Silver Collection, the Sisi Museum, and the Imperial Apartments. All in all, we learned so much about Empress Elizabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph. Fun fact: They have 7 descendants still alive today! I wonder what they think of the museum.
Here are a few pictures from the Silver Collection. I probably took about eighty photos while touring these rooms, and it was the only place along the way where we were allowed to take pictures. The collection was absolutely massive. Actually, almost gluttonous. I won't bore you with eighty pictures of dishes and silverware... so here's three:
Right near the Imperial Palace was the Kunsthisthoriches Museum. The way this place was set up reminded me a lot of the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in D.C.
I wish I'd been able to appreciate their collections more, but we'd been so busy all day already (and overstimulated from the Imperial Palace), so I feel like we skimmed a lot of this. Still, what we did see was wonderful. If I could go back, I would give this museum it's own day.
Take a look at how overloaded we were by the art in the Kunsthistoriches:
We were also given plenty of free time during our trip, and one of the things we decided to do was visit the Austrian Parliament building! Unfortunately, by the time we got there they were closing the doors for the night. So, we weren't able to go inside and take an actual tour, but the outside was gorgeous.
It certainly was food for my Political Science soul.
I hope you're not quite tired of me yet, because there's still more to see. I took so many pictures on this trip, and I want to share as many as possible with you. CLICK HERE to head over to part 3 of my Vienna and Prague experience!
Keep not settling,
